This album makes me want to make music, even if I doubt I could ever come close to it

The Lonesome Crowded West to me is about being stuck in a place you dislike, one that constantly seems to be changing for the worse. That feeling of being trapped in part by your own familiarity, and the feeling of being surrounded by so many people, yet still somehow being alone runs through the album's core. Sonically, Modest Mouse sound angry, vindictive, and just the slightest bit defeated across much of ... read more
This has become my most beloved album in my early 20s, acting as the perfect soundtrack to these past few years. The Lonesome Crowded West has been labeled as the bible of Emo and Indie Rock as a whole, and further exploration becomes clear as to why that is. I have always been aware of the reputation that this album possesses and it regretfully took me a while to see it for myself. Well I'll be damed, they were right. I gotta say this is really hitting hard for me

But wow this is such a amazing album with so many highlights on it even tho the lyrics are repetitive on most song's there's still a great deal of emotion behind them that I feel like i get something new everytime i hear it. Truly a amazing album to me

Modest Mouse has a very unique and engaging guitar sound on this album, and the drumming is absolutely outstanding. Isaac Brock's lyrics are incredible as well, ... read more
Jam packed with awesome tunes. As good as it gets for indie rock, MM absolutely crush several different styles within this album. Isaac Brock is in his best form, spewing insights one would get from that sort of home-schooled religious holy roller upbringing.

The vinyl version adds "Baby Blue Sedan' as track 4 and slides Lounge down to track 15 of 16. Rather than having a gatefold cover to house both records, or putting both records in a single cover, the double-vinyl release was shipped ... read more
