Rather than a departure or different direction from the first album, Promise simply executes on a higher level, and the repeated success provided the leverage for the group to continue to follow their own formula, in their own time.

Fusing pop sounds further into their jazzy style, Promise is a largely enjoyable listen. With dramatic builds and exciting moments, Sade continues to mystify it’s listeners with a deeply compelling voice and distinct soul.

Wow. Such a beautiful album from start to finish. Every instrument is worked into the album so well and Sade’s singing on this is top notch. With more listens, this might turn into a 10.

Equally seductive as her debut, this lady offers an effective combination of desire and elegance, leading us to confirm that she did kept her promise.
