Lightbulb Sun is overall a pretty simple release for the prog legends, even if it is pretty consistent and does have a few of their greatest songs. It's biggest flaws are simply that it's not as exciting when compared to a bigger Porcupine Tree project, and there are a couple of just very OK songs.

Lightbulb Sun is an interesting album, in someways it further refines the transition to catchier Rock that has been going on since Signify creating some of their best work, in the form of Four Chords That Made a Million and Where We Would Be, however it also splits the album. This split comes in the second half, starting with Hatesong and culminating with the 13 minute Russia on Ice, we get far more experimental tracks.
