Iron Maiden's comeback record often stretches its tracks and their premises far too thin in a transparently lazy attempt to sound anthemic. Once you add underwhelming guitar solos and basic lyrics to the mix, you get an album that ultimately has its moments, but is better enjoyed in pieces.
The return of frontman Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith marks the return of Iron Maiden's actual good work. Brave New World also marks the first of many Maiden records to include three guitarists, as when Smith returned they decided to keep his replacement, Janick Gers, around.
I can't lie, the inclusion of three guitarists does make this record feel a bit crowded at times, with so much guitar work that it can be quite distracting. But I am a sucker for great instrumentation, and ... read more
BRUCE IS BACK. And Adrian is also back, can't forget about him! Anyway, now that I've listened to this album, I can understand why people didn't like Virtual XI. That album didn't have the authentic Iron Maiden sound that Brave New World has again. Maybe it's the return of Adrian, maybe it's just better production. Good to see Bruce back!
Anyway, this album does feel more modern than their previous releases, which I did not expect to be good as they tried in the late 90s.
Bruce Dickinson is back again!
1. The Wicker Man- Great (It's good to hear Bruce's voice again)
2. Ghost of the Navigator- Great (Such an aggressive song. Sounds like battle music)
3. Brave New World- Good (Sorry)
4. Blood Brothers- Good (Not as good, but not a bad song)
5. The Mercenary- Great (Pretty good)
6. Dream of Mirrors- Great (This was awesome)
7. The Fallen Angel- Good (I love it, but then it dies down. Damn...)
8. The Nomad- Great (The chorus was really good)
