Caught between her desires to return to the commercial and club success of her 80s career and to maintain the critical accolades of Ray of Light, Madonna entered the 21st century with a flawed but enjoyable pop record. The tracks on Music range from classic dance bangers ('Music') to strange, guitar-heavy Americana ballads ('Gone.') The blend of styles creates an incongruous tracklist with some of my favorite Madonna songs but also some tracks that feel entirely inconsequential.

Never got the hype for this album. It sounds like a mixture of Ray of Light and American Life but without any of the high points of either album. "Music" is simply a snapshot of how Madonna's music was developing between 1998-2003, but it isn't a cohesive album on its own.

Top 3 songs - Runaway Lover, Don't Tell Me & Gone
Worst song - Nobody's Perfect

It's been 20 years since Music was released and it still sounds fresher than ever. In a time period when the main chart toppers were either Oops I Did It Again or the Marshall Mathers LP, Madonna stays true to herself while she creates some sort of a time capsule of her life with Music.

The title track is one of her best intro songs. Produced by Mirwaïs who pretty much produced half of this record, Music is a simple love letter to music with relatable lyrics and an infectious beat with ... read more
