Broods’s Space Island is most effective when it disrupts its pervasive chill to inspect the details of crumbling love.
I don't get the low scores to be honest, this is surely a fine album. Broods once again released a cool pop record that i'll be listening constantly. 'Space Island' is on the core of soft pop, bringing simple melodies and subtle vocals that match the vibe correctly, yet there's a flourish in every track, some cute sparkles.
This definitely feels like a Broods album, but I feel like they aren't trying to reach the full potential of what they can achieve. 'Space Island' is a lot less ambitious and more conventional than their previous outing. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but I can't help but feel like some of the magic is missing. This is a decent pop album, but it has "inessential" written all over it. It feels like a minor entry in their discography.
