Twelve years since D'Angelo released his dirt-encrusted soul opus in the first month of the new millennium, we have yet to see a follow-up. Heard now on this 2xLP reissue, Voodoo still stands as a paranoid, mysterious, and challenging statement that somehow managed to scale the industry.

The Line of Best Fit
It is at once both intimate and monolithic. In terms of twenty-first century soul, R&B and funk - even blues - it is utterly without compare.

God Is in the TV

Voodoo is a full 78 minutes long but it never sounds boring. The songs have depth, and there is inspired, adventurous song writing with perfectly balanced production. The execution is spot on.

This is the best album in the last 20 years, learning from the legends of our time and using it to create his own path. Voodoo was nothing short of magic from start to finish.
