With the wheat comes the chaff perhaps, and if these superfluous histrionics are the necessary price of the whole, then it's easily paid — and at a tight nine tracks, any fat that needs trimming from Motorheart is easily digested. This one runs smooth.

Spill Magazine
This album is a watershed moment that will see The Darkness continue to rock for years to come. One needs to get past the goofy concept and listen to the music, which is unbeatable. One of the top albums of the year.
Classic Rock
The album fades a little towards the end, but it’s exactly the daft-as-a-brush cheer-up we all need right now.
No, they’re not going to rule the airwaves with another smash single, but the Lowestoft rockers have settled into their niche and pump out records every couple of years to their established following.

Motorheart is without doubt the silliest album The Darkness have ever made. Everything Justin Hawkins sings sounds desperately sincere, as if borne of nothing but authentic emotion, and when this apparent candour is applied to the title-track’s subject matter – having sex with robots – it’s clear that The Darkness are mostly here to make us smile.

A slim nine tracks, it doesn't dwell on anything deeper than base desires or simple pleasures, providing a fun and bombastic release that plays on their strengths as technically proficient but debauched jesters of the U.K. rock world.
