The fact that the first 3 words on a Bob Dylan record are “wiggle wiggle wiggle” is absolutely baffling to me.
Bob Dylan went from writing Visions of Johanna, Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands, Mr Tambourine Man, Ballad of a Thin Man, and many many more wonderfully written classics, to Wiggle Wiggle. I have nothing else to say about this album.
After hearing Oh Mercy, I was excited to get back into Bob Dylan's discography, then I heard Wiggle Wiggle. Unfortunately, this is one of Dylan's more painful albums to actually get through. The vast majority of the album has really bad lyrics, boring production and and a pretty dull atmosphere.
Under the red sky is another painfully mediocre record from Dylan. Other than the song wiggle wiggle, which might be the worst Dylan track I’ve heard, and it’s the opening song no less.
Following the surprisingly decent 'Oh Mercy', Bob Dylan decided to kill all momentum that album may have built by dropping 'Under the Red Sky', a folksy pop-rock record that feels like a cruel joke on his fans half the time. The main killers are the overly clean production, simplistic songwriting and lyrics ranging from basic to infantile; when a Dylan record starts with the words "Wiggle wiggle wiggle," you know the man's pen game has reached a critical low.
