Born of impromptu DJ sets broadcast from a forest clearing in New Hampshire, Drew’s latest album distills decades of dance-music history into an hour of joyous new standards.
At its best, the fractured rhythms and diaphanous vocal samples work to surreal heights. At its worst, some of the loops are a bit under-realized, repetitive, and static.
A remarkable house record. Every song feels like a dj mix in and of itself. The samples blend together and bounce around with precision and poise. The whole thing sounds so fun, though not in a loose way, but in a perfectly designed, yet not forced, way. Eris Drew is a master of dance music.
