I honestly feel like I'm underrating this, but at the same time this is the score I think is right. This is easily the best Opeth album I've heard so far, and easily their most consistently intriguing.

Instrumentally and vocally, this album is insane. It seems that everyone involved has completely perfected their sound and managed to make some of the best work in prog metal. This is it. Opeth, you absolute fucking delightful motherfuckers. This review is going to be something special because not only does this Opeth album impress me the most alongside Blackwater Park, but it serves as both a top 3 favourite (currently) and my joint-second favourite Opeth album (ever). My favourite Opeth record that were able to capture a gloomy cinematic listen. When it comes to this LP, the band was able to perform the guitar harmonies, bassline work and the vocals effectively. The acoustic passages here for me tend to outshine the metal side, but isn't no con or anything that way. They were able to finally gel in their 4th LP and in doing so created a progressive metal masterpiece.
