At first, Ocean to Ocean feels a bit samey, textures and tempos much of a muchness. Then the musical subtleties and nuances begin to permeate your consciousness, like a burst of flavour at a wine-tasting.
Riding the grunge wave, her gothic music explores themes of religion, identity and sexual assault and she revisits these themes on Ocean to Ocean.
With Ocean to Ocean, it seems as if Tori Amos has all but given up on pushing the limits of her instrument.
This is a glimmering, lush affair, rewarding repeated listening with multi-textured layers in the lyrics and instrumentation.
Ah, how delightful to get an album like this from an artist like Amos! 'Ocean to Ocean' is her best since 2000.
So for now this is where Toris discography ends, and this is actually a very strong showing!
Ocean To Ocean may disappoint some listeners cause its definitely more slower paced than her signature albums but if you give this album a lot of patience, its some of Toris strongest work in general.
I hope Ocean To Ocean is the beginning of a series of good releases from Tori that can actually hold a candle to Scarlets Walk and her 90s output.
Again a really great album!! Really loved this one. Hopefully she continues this streak of great albums!
