CRITIC REVIEWS

Loud and Quiet
Upbeat and assured, the shift doesn’t feel forced, and what could quite easily have come across as a bit of a musical mid-life crisis seems more like a case of organic, career-best progression.
80
Dork
A beautiful, and sweet, album that manages to be both super-loose in vibe and immaculately tight in sound at the same time.
80
Gigwise
Orlando Week’s sophomore endeavour proves that amidst the current infectious state of the world, optimism is still contagious.

The Forty-Five
Weeks’ second may have been written about a specific time and situation, but there’s a sense of lightness and positivity to ‘Hop Up’ that everyone could do with an injection of right now.

NME
This is an album about embracing the hopefulness of new life and striving to share Weeks’ singular, miraculous happiness with anyone who might be dragging their feet, stumbling upon the songs with little excitement about a currently dreary day-to-day.

God Is in the TV

In the midst of winter Hop Up is an album that’s welcomingly warm and brings a smile when listened. Sung by an irresistibly likeable and mellow personality, and one that has a unique idiosyncratic voice. The perfect person to spread a much needed feeling of joy.

DIY
An irresistibly likeable album, very much in the mould of its creator’s affable, mellow personality.

The Line of Best Fit

Hop Up lives up to its buoyant name, carefree, poignant and a tonic of testing times.

I may not love anything in particular here, but I sure as hell like it. Sure it can be cheesy, and it’s quirky to a peculiar level, but that works in Weeks’ favor. ‘Hop Up’ is fairly consistent—consistently enjoyable. It’s lame and derivative enough to make you roll your eyes while simultaneously cool and unique enough to make you root for Weeks anyway. This is some really curious indie pop in the best way possible, and I can’t wait to see where he goes ... read more

These are some weird off-kilter R&B songs. I like them, I just wish they had a bit more structure.
