With Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, Spoon have once again found a gray area between the poles of pop accessibility and untested studio theorizing, modifying a formula that has grown to feel familiar even as it wanders, and refusing to square the circle while doing so.

I'm one to believe that indie rock may always be a "follow the leader" kind of genre, but that even the most stubborn of movements will find a way to progress. 2007 marked the year where the scorching brand left by The Strokes was in the process of fading away. As a result, bands who took center stage in this style began to distance themselves while nibbling on then forgien concepts. Wow. "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" is the first Spoon album to ever blow me away throughout the entire album. There's not a single song that had me bored at the slightest. The production is fantastic, the writing is some of the sharpest I've heard from Britt Daniel and the raw instrumentation is wonderful. Overall, "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" (my gosh that's so irritating to type) is probably one of the more aesthetically striking indie rock albums I've heard from the 2000's.

Track for track I cannot skip a damn song on this thing.

The aesthetic. The writing. The awkward production. It's their best work and I hope they go to a more raw sound on later records like they do on this one, it really makes the songs come to life.
I am often heard citing Spoon as the most consistent band of their generation. There is one glaring exception: GaX5 is one of the most stunning indie rock albums I have ever heard and rises so far above its peers and contemporaries. It's almost unfathomable that a band could make something this accessible and not sacrifice one iota of quality. Be sure you're wearing headphones when listening to The Ghost of You Lingers. It's the only way.
Oof this is a good one
