Moving away from the groovy lounge sound, The Cardigans moved straight into the 1990s trope of trip-pop infused bops. Sometimes Nina Persson's voice fits the mood perfectly, like on the fantastic single, 'Erase/Rewind.' The chorus has the classic hook of an early Cardigans' song but manages to add massive beats to round out the sound in a new way. Gran Turismo marks a drastic change for The Cardigans, both in terms of sound and in lyrical content. Adding electronic influences and sounding like a Swedish copy of Garbage, the former jazzy pop-rock band has suddenly turned into a dark and brooding alternative act. Lyrically, Gran Turismo is easily the darkest and most depressing album the band has produced so far.
