Definitely the band's weakest offering, but I'm still consistently impressed with how they continue to reinvent themselves in an organic way that doest diverge from what their fanbase is attracted to most at the core. I love Mr Twin Sister. This isn't their best record but they're still doing their thing and being weird and funky af. The arrangements seem like they should work but sometimes they fall short. Songs like "Youth Obsessed" probably should have been scrapped. But I love "Expressions", "Carmen", and "Beezle"!
My first encounter with this band, which leaves me very curious about their other work. The production on this album is spectacular, although their songwriting is quite uneven, with some songs that are rather uninteresting or lack focus. But damn. "Expressions", what a track!
Mr Twin Sister, at one point were one of my favorite Alternative Dance acts. But this latest from them, let’s be honest, is really lukewarm. There are plenty of tight grooves, and some funky licks for sure. But so much of this album is just very middle of the road, and shows Mr Twin Sister not playing to their strengths.
