CRITIC REVIEWS

90
Loud and Quiet

These sci-fi torch songs are original, provocative and frequently disquieting, and the fact that Kavinsky makes them with relatively conventional tools, and repeatedly, without mis-step, across 50 minutes is also a feature, not a bug.

Clash

Despite the dark aesthetic of ‘Reborn’, the album shines bright with promise for the futuristic vista of Kavinsky.

Gigwise

Overall, this is an impressive return from Kavinsky and whilst the music isn’t breaking any new ground, it’s artistically visualised and expertly crafted throughout.

The Line of Best Fit

Guaranteed summer dancefloor hits carouse with the meticulously mercurial on Reborn, a collection that future-proofs Kavinsky’s curation of high-end production, addictive earworms and cinematic scope.

79
Beats Per Minute

The album unleashes an astounding journey somewhere beyond the universe, driving on an interstellar highway at maximum speed alone at dawn.

60
NME

The title suggests total rebirth, which feels a little overblown – but when Kavinsky eases up on maximalism, the songs flourish and we see a different side to his production prowess.

I'm not sorry for this, I love this new Kavinsky album. He has successfully modernized with the sound of synthwave and synthpop, making some great bangers! Morgan Phalen steals the whole show on the album as being the best feature on the album, he compliments Kavinsky sound so well, maybe even better than the Weeknd. Production is just so great and smooth to the ears. I just love this whole album a bunch and hopefully I dont have to wait another 9 years for his next album lmao.

Driving around the city at night and listening to the new Kavinsky album is a pleasure.

Had to wait until I had a long late night drive to listen to this.
Was it worth it? eh maybe i guess.
Kavinsky's debut album OutRun is able to enhance any driving experience into feeling like driving around at crazy speeds around a light-polluted city late at night. Instead of being able to convert a vibe, Reborn fits a vibe instead. I would put this on if I was already speeding around a city at night. It's not as punchy, it's way cleaner and a bit safer than OutRun which is saying a lot since ... read more

Some great individual tracks here and there like Renegade and Vigilante, but overall it's just a very kitschy and overly nostalgic mess.

Much more mainstream than some of Kavinsky's earlier releases and all the more disappointing for it. When this LP is at its best it is cool and sprightly and jazzy. When it is at its worst it is mainstream nothingness.

Such a shame.
