Damn Peggy: The Directors Cut.

Look, regardless of what you think of JPEGMAFIA or his music, there is no denying that this man is completely in his own lane. Sure, he makes abrasive Experimental Hip Hop (which has become quite the hot commodity as of recent, even I have a Experimental Hip Hop project!) but I truly do believe that JPEG is truly doing his own thing. Combining sweet synth melodies, glitchy production and heavy bass and drums samples with his versatile flow, Peggy feels like a ... read more

Let me start of with the most shocking thing. Peggy dissed Elucid and Billy Woods (Armand Hammer) on the track “The Ghost Of Ranking Dread”. That’s so crazy to me, I’m really interested to see how this unfolds. It’s also kind of sad in a way.

Now i’ve only checked out the offline version, and it’s also the only version i’ll be reviewing. This is the version that Peggy, stands behind as an artist. So i don’t really see the point in giving my ... read more

Yeah everyone who told me to listen to the offline version was right. This is the full vision right here. An incredible full experience that fixes most of the issues I had with the online project

holy shit this is way better than the online version. fuck republic records. peggy is feeling FREE! TRUST! me.

this has to be one of peggys most mind boggling albums. you may think “have you heard AMHAC or Veteran” because this album is less manic then them respective projects. but that’s what makes this so different from the rest. this feels like every jpeg project all rolled into one. ARE U HAPPY? sounds straight out of AMHAC era, TRUST! could have easily been on EP2 and ... read more

Random Releases #10

Since the Offline Version was what JPEGMAFIA wanted people to listen to, my full review will be based on the Offline Version. JPEGMAFIA isn't no regular artist, he's someone special, a guy who wants to take music further than it's ever gone and it's visible with this album as there's nothing basic about it, with every sound seeming to be crafted from scratch, using familiar sounds we're accustomed to in our regular life and creating music that abandons the boundaries of ... read more

The offline only tracks honestly make this one of, if not, the best Peggy project of all time. Much more fleshed out than veteran or AMHAC, but he still manages to retain some aspects which made his earlier projects fun, most notable ones being his black ben carson era flavored production mixed with hard hitting vocal performances and some of his more recent cloudy, autotuned vocals mixed in with his simpler synth heavy production.

This is easily one of the best experimental hip hop albums ever ... read more

NO NUANCE REVIEW

This record is pretty solid! If only the album ended with one of my favorite songs of his, “BALD!”. I wonder what that would sound like.

i felt there was enough of a different between both versions to warrant a seperate album on here. it seems peggy considers them different, so why shouldn’t we

A boy can certainly dream!

Lord, I'm bout to bust!!!!!
Heralded as the definitive edition of LP!, it’s not hard to see why. Quite literally everything I enjoyed about the version of LP! up on streaming platforms is expanded upon here beautifully. Every single bonus track and expansion here are top-tier, making one of the best albums of the year even better.

Favs: TRUST!; DIRTY!; NEMO!; END CREDITS!; HAZARD DUTY PAY!; ... read more

Never heard a JPEG album before, so I went into this really interested, and DAMN, I'm actually really impressed with this!

I loved the aesthetic of this album, with its gritty sample work on tracks like "BMT!" and "HAZARD DUTY PAY!" that just sounds incredible! I also think JPEG is prob one of the best writers for hip hop right now, cause the bars on this album are pretty much straight fire throughout the whole album! Songs like "REBOUND!" and "DAM! DAM! ... read more

Is it too early to call this one of the best experimental hip-hop albums ever? Fuck his label, this is Peggy's true uncut vision in all its glory. Looks like Little Simz & Injury Reserve have some competition.

Despite some filler towards the backend JPEGMAFIA returns with a serious collection of bangers. 'LP!' is more or less a culmination of everything that he's done over the past few years, the sheer unpredictability of 'Veteran', the catchier Pop and R&B melodies of 'All My Heroes are Cornballs', the banger factor of 'EP!' and the lo-fi cloudiness of 'EP2!' can all be found here and Peggy does a great job performance-wise over these sounds. He still brings forth the edge, personality and ... read more

2021 Catch-Up #5

JPEGMAFIA has to be one of the hardest artists to talk about. His music pretty much speaks for itself. It’s abrasive, hard as hell, and catchy when it needs to be. Veteran is one of my favorite hip-hop albums of 2018, and even if I couldn’t get into All My Heroes Are Cornballs like others did, I still love some individual moments on it (I finally managed to come around on Free the Frail recently, and the opening 3 tracks are still some of the best in his whole ... read more

*FOR THE OFFLINE VERSION*

lp! is jpegmafia's first album since his acclaimed all my heroes are cornballs, and his first project since his two closely released ep's ep! and ep2! , the latter i thought was his worst work to date despite me for the most part enjoying it

this record is the rebound i truly wanted from jpegmafia. after his ep's i was stuck wondering where he was going next artistically. to me he seemed a bit burned out, or at least was struggling to find an artistic direction when ... read more

*EXTRA TRACKS ONLY*

How can this man get any better? Fantastic use of samples and Peggy doing what he's best at, nothing more to it really.

My review of this version is posted up on the regular version of the album so if you wanna go look at that you can, but if you wanna know that review is kind of dated cause this album grew on me even more. The only reason I am rating this one instead of the other one is because the cover is wayyyy better. That is all.

[84.55] LP! is surely a one. Gospel and older hip/hop samples are not remixed as much as I would expect for a JPEG project, unlike his older works where Barrington will distort the frick out of these usually. This extremity of clarity is one of the only novel ideas about LP!, and the way he employs this sound to a record makes me feel like he is about to or is going through some big life changes, using a record to channel those feelings of ambiguity, although not reproducing those feelings and ... read more
