I really enjoyed his last 3 or 4 albums a great deal; but, this is far better and is another entry essential for Elvis Costello that I'll have to cop on vinyl to add to my collection of his work. 'The Boy Named If' truly has the energy of classic Elvis Costello. It totally exceeded my expectations.

I think a couple of the tracks like 'The Difference' and 'Trick Out The Truth' just aren't on par with the rest of the record. As well as the runtime being a little long which results in an unsatisfactory resolution to the record. But there are enough of solid pop tunes throughout this thing to bring it to an 80. Elvis's most solid work in a while.

After years of willingly searching for new sounds and after several collaborations with experimental rappers and jazz virtu-oses, Elvis Costello has returned to his roots. The result is his best record in three decades. 1979’s Armed Forces is my favourite Costello record. By then, he had found his own segment in music at a plateau somewhere between pub rock, punk, and ska, while his lyrics constantly exceeded his peers in terms of emotional storytelling. It soon became clear, though, that ... read more

Tracks i liked: The Difference, Mistook Me For A Friend.

52 minutes can seem like 3 hours if what you are doing is boring enough. Bad, bad, bad, the worst since i started reviewing things here.

With inspired melodies from 50s and 60s, this sounds like a massive operatic revival.

This is yet another sign that Mr Costello remains unique. In contrast to many musuicans of his age who produce predictable and often boring sound, he is stil able to produce authenthic rock pieces.

It's the greatest Costello album of the 21st century.
