On the remixes, Björk plunges her pale visage into an array of landscapes, with unpredictable collaborators at every turn.


For a remix album, in fact, this is remarkably close to essential listening.


As a standalone product, Bastards feels distressingly unnecessary.

Bastards is another compilation of remixes, varying in their success. Some of the tracks here offer a delightfully original and unique rendering of the Biophilia originals. Omar Souleyman's remix of Crystalline is a highlight and the right choice to open the album. One thing a lot of the tracks do is make the songs a bit more palatable, I enjoyed Biophilia but it was lacking in parts, some of whats here really makes them danceable and comes off like a distant cousin to Medulla's more ... read more

I don't think bastards is a "must-have". It reminds me Voltaic in a certain way. But electronics remixes in this one are just ... empty, just like when you have a beautiful fridge but you are too lazy to go in the supermarket.
Björk proves that she can do better !

Although there are some good ideas and exciting proposals of edits to this selection of tracks, Bastards can't help but feel like an unnecessary release in Bjork's discography. Some of these remixes actually sound original and exciting, pointing "hidden" sides to the original studio recordings, like on the first few tracks in the list (produced by Omar Souleyman, Hudson Mohawke and Death Grips, respectively), but as soon as the excitment of these strange takes leaves, all that is left ... read more
