Jane Doe... outrageous & torturing, one of the most mind-blowing albums to date which has been worshipped like some sort of god by it’s nearly spiritual fanbase, but does this deserve that much hype? Yes it does. I believe masterpieces sounds like this.

If I had words to describe the sounds of this album that would be “Soundtracks of an abattoir”. Throwing some dissonances and weird harmonies, instantaneously changing renditions, complicating riffs & grindcore drums ... read more

I think the instrumentals here are really fantastic, there's a very precise level of execution and these guys know exactly what they're aiming for and they achieve it wonderfully. My issue is mainly the slight repetitive nature of the whole album, although some tracks differ, and the vocals, which will possibly grow on me but it's hit or miss so far, but it's a really good album that deserves the attention it recieves and the acclaim it's getting.

I always thought Jane Doe was overhyped, what with Loudwire always sucking its proverbial dick and calling it the "best metalcore album of all time" every chance it gets. And while it's not my favorite album of the genre...dude, it grew on me. So much. I gave it a listen a few months ago and decided it wasn't overrated, but it's not perfect and certainly not the best metalcore out there. On the next listen, I determined it was indeed a masterpiece that deserves a 10. On the next ... read more

The tranquility embraced my body and mind.
I lie on the floor and look into the ceiling smiling lightly, saying to myself "I'm fucked up i guess". My mom wouldn't last a minute in this mess, she's not very resistant to noise. On the contrary, I feel that I could absorb Pulse Demon now, but I know that my ears need to rest too, it's time to get up i think, Europa League already started and i didn't even drink a cocoa today.

This is such a ferocity of an album. Converge LP "Jane doe" was my first introduction to their music. I'm not to aware of much metal core acts, however this is probably the best so far. I was always aware of Kurt Ballou being a producer for a few of my favourite heavy metal bands. This record prove to me how wild and extreme it can go.

Anger is an emotion that Converge has perfected, and it all started with this record. Ever since Jane Doe, every single record this band has put out has been boundary pushing, blood pumping, and skull crushing, and in order to prove that these guys were worth giving a shit about, they put out some of the most brutal metal ever put to fruition. Converge had a purpose with this record, to create one of the most brutal records ever made, and in 2001, the year of Alicia Keys, Usher, and J-Lo, ... read more

My favorite metal album of all time. Such a brutal, frenzied, and thrilling listen. Consistently harsh but also consistently amazing.

One of the most visceral and earth-shattering records I've ever come across. A record the more humiliating life gets for you, the harder it punches you right in the guts and overall system.

I will never forget the first time I heard Concubine in my bootleg headphones amidst the second part of junior high school 3 years ago and feeling absolutely attacked by the abrasive screams and drums; turning it off after the first track feeling "I need another time for this. I'm not ready at ... read more

A album so technically perfect and well performed it goes beyond anything i have ever seen on a metalcore/mathcore LP. Jane Doe is raw, brutal, visceral and filthy.

Heard this album yesterday but somehow forgot to write a review...

I can understand the appeal of Converge's "Jane Doe", a twelve-track trip through hell. The instrumentation on this album is breathtaking, both from a compositional standpoint and in terms of execution. However, I felt that the discrepancy in track quality and the occasionally grating vocals bogged this album down. One of the main examples of this is on the opener "Concubine", where the high wails the vocals ... read more

This is one of the most brutal metal albums I've ever heard. Its more abrasive qualities are a little too much for me to love, but that's the point of music like this. If people aren't off put then you're doing something wrong.

Another review inspired by Fantano, this time... his classics week.

Converge is a band I've been wanting to get into for a while. I have casually listened to some of their stuff, and I know they've been around a pretty long while. So when I watched Fantano's review of this, I knew I had to listen to it. On first listen, I thought it was any old basic mathcore album. Then it dawned on me... this is from 2001. This is a trendsetting album for sure. "Jane Doe" shows Converge showing ... read more
