Early Converge had more thrash influences all over the place, and it feels more raw and aggressive than some of their later work. This is really enjoyable, and it lays the foundations of their sound.

Converge didn't really burst onto the scene until their 2001 release Jane Doe, but the group were consistently releasing material since their inception in 1990 with multiple demos, EP's and compilation albums to their name. Petitioning the Empty Sky is considered by some to be a proper LP while the band themselves consider the release to be a compilation due to the fact that the songs were recorded at separate times.
