Louder Than War

At its heart, Topical Dancer is a fantastic pop record, one that is lyrically unflinching and musically compelling.

Beats Per Minute

Topical Dancer is a record for literally anyone. It’s a tool as much as it is an escape hatch. Play this album for your grandparents, your parents, your children, your children’s children, and children yet to be born. For it’s a spiritual palette cleanser as much as it is a physical one.

Pitchfork
The Belgian duo’s debut album pairs punchy, propulsive electro pop with inventive sound design, absurdist wit, and sly jabs at racism and xenophobia.
80
NME

With ‘Topical Dancer’, they have created an album that works just as well as the soundtrack to a killer house party as it does a necessary act of rebellion against the negative forces in our society.

80
DIY
Across the record, to-the-point statements are matched impeccably in both intensity and tone by club-ready beats.

The Needle Drop

The production, performances, and witty social commentary all land on Topical Dancer.

God Is in the TV
If you want to laugh, dance and have some mental food for thought at the end of it, buy/stream/download (or whatever kids do) Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupi’s critiquing guide on an all-too-confusing decade.

AllMusic

The words offer a lot of food for thought, but the music and arrangements are every bit as remarkable.

The Observer
The Belgian duo’s debut album is a banging fusion of funk, house and techno that makes up for in mischievous energy what it lacks in subtle wit.

The artsy dance-pop beats and vocal delivery and melodies are pretty engaging: the delivery on 'Reappropriate' actually gave me Björk vibes and I also thought the way the laughing was incorporated into the beat of 'Haha' was really cool. My only gripe is with the lyrics; they can be pretty shallow and cringe-worthily pretentious at times and, while the passive aggression works on a track like 'Thank You', it gets annoying elsewhere.

Topical Dancer, the debut album by Belgian duo Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul isn’t just enjoyable because of its combination of house, synth funk & minimal synth, but also because of its witty socially charged humor. When I say humor, I don’t mean that Adigéry is here telling jokes, but rather it’s the observations that are brought up that will make you blurt out with laughter. Tracks that really drive this topic home are “Esperanto”, ... read more

One of the weirdest projects that I’ve heard this year, but honestly, this is EXTREMELY GOOD! It really is! It’s a mixture of dance, experimental and other peculiar sounds all wrapped up by intelligent social commentary. Yes, the word to sum up my thoughts on this project is “intelligent”. But it’s also really fun!
