Even by their supremely lofty standards, The Long Road North is yet another triumph for the band. Nearly 70 minutes feels like no time at all, with the album working best when given your undivided attention.
Although The Long Road North is a superb album and will clearly be a contender on many album of the year lists (including my own), for me, it does not quite match the heights of A Dawn to Fear.
With quieter moments bringing more emotional heft to the loud, The Long Road North showcases fantastic dynamics and pacing as the experience of this band shines brighter than ever in the darkness.
The Long Road North is another welcome addition on their quest to push sonic boundaries and is one of their hardest hitting releases yet.
Cult Of Luna's The Long Road North offers an arduous yet rewarding journey into post-metal majesty.
The Long Road North is a more sophisticated record than A Dawn to Fear, and Cult of Luna’s reputation for steely competence is quite at home in its various details and refinements.
The Long Road North features more majestic Scandi Noir anthems from the doom-metal ABBA, Cult Of Luna.
For many people, i can see that Cult of Luna not changing their sound much can seem more draining for them but for me I adore the sound of atmospheric sludge metal that I can't help but love this record and its heavy epic feeling surrounding me and Cult of Luna continues to show when they are near the top when it comes to this genre of music, great compisitions a strong and emotional focus on atmosphere knowing when to reel it back and become quiet and when to let all th aggression burst out, ... read more
Swedish heavy metal band Cult of Luna are now eight albums deep with their latest The Long Rad North and even tough it’s my first exposer to their music, there is plenty here to have me coming back for more. For their 9th album, Cult of Luna are still delivering their style of sludgy, slow and downtrodden atmospheric sludge metals with very savage vocals, and while The Long Road North is a bit of a predictable release for them, I don't think that Cult of Luna has an pressure to change due to how consistent they've been for over 20 years. This record does not diversify their sound in the way Vertikal did for example with the electronics mixed in, other than trying to switch things up just a little ... read more
This album is super heavy, not to mention the amazing drum beats are. This album turns intensity up to 11 at points but also is more calm and atmospheric. Actually this album is always atmospheric its just more spacious at points. The transitions between parts are so good on this album and it deserves good recognition
