This is my personal favorite Modest Mouse album. It could be nostalgia completely blinding me, but I loved this back in third grade and I love it just as much now. People As Places is still one of the best tracks in the band's entire discography.

It's obvious that they're still going for the same commercial sound on "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank". But it still has the same outstanding songwriting, manic vocal delivery and great production that's present on their previous records. The nautical theme and guitar work from Johnny Marr are also nice additions.

it's just one of those rare MM albums that I don't love the crap out of. It's kinda all over the place creatively (not in a good way though) and it's really hard to just sit down and enjoy.

Strong 5/10

I love this album as much as their older ones, if not more.
