Selected Ambient Works Volume II is a life-changing record.

An album that changed ambient music forever.
While some listeners may find this double-disc album dull (both discs run over 70 minutes), many listeners will be intrigued and fascinated by the intricately detailed music of Aphex Twin.
Rolling Stone

Surreal, otherworldly and occasionally nightmarish, Selected Ambient Works Vol. II provides a visionary perspective on ambient electronic music.

At its best, this double CD, Selected Ambient Works Volume II, is an avant-garde score in search of a postapocalyptic theater piece, a la Philip Glass. More often, it’s chamber music for humorless cyber-nerds (or the Styx basement tapes we never wanted to hear).

Late morning. Late November 2016, I was 17. Fresh out of a heavy and uninterrupted sleep, full of surreal dreams (the numerous beers of the day before oblige this), I take my first coffee by inspecting the outside horizon offered to me through the only window of the room of my grandparents' house (which overlooks a green and somewhat dantesque nature). It's 10.0 classic
I found the majority of these songs to be very unsettling and I thought that was a bad thing until I listened to the whole album. I play a movie in my head when listening to this album and although it can be a challenge to get through, I would say it is a truly rewarding experience.

Focusing a whole lot more on creating an ambient sound more than the club beats of its predecessor, "Selected Ambient Works Volume II" is another masterful work from Richard D. James! Both discs of this 24-song, 156-minute album house a lot of different moods, styles and atmospheres that are extremely complacent in ambient music today! The butt end isn't quite as strong as everything else, mostly due to an overly repetitious 11-minute cut, but everything else is so ... read more
After the release of "Selected Ambient Works 85-92", which is an album that truly changed techno and dance forever with it's hypnotic, ethereal and driving elongated tunes, Richard D James didn't waste any time to release the second volume as a follow up to the record, but the sequel to the album turned out to be a very different project with its sound being completely unlike it's predecessor, as well as being an extremely long two side project.

To start things off, this album very ... read more
