The debut record from death/doom masters Swallow the Sun is an outstanding achievement that stands the test of time. These tracks carry thoughtful dynamics throughout, keeping the tracks varied and interesting. This record is crushingly heavy at times, while hauntingly beautiful almost every second. Some of my favorite melodies and riffs ever are here.

Swallow the Sun's debut is a slow death doom metal record with a focus on building an atmosphere whilst maintaining a cold feeling. It does achieve this very well with great drumming and good guitar work and the vocals are very good as well but nothing which i would say it is near the top of the doom metal genre but where The Morning Never Came shines is in its buildup and letting you being pulled into the record by the first track and they never really letting you go but it does however slowly ... read more
