"Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You" synthesizes everything we need to know about Big Thief, blending it with new perspectives on the future in an album of ultimate dedication. It's an introspective journey through America as heartwarming as it is poignant, where the landscapes are the main influences and actors of this wonderful story.

Big Thief is one of my contemporary bands of heart since a few years already, it is typically the kind of music that seduces me, touches me, ... read more

EDIT: After subsequent listens, I’m changing the score from an 87 to a 90. Every song I initially loved in my original review are honestly becoming 10/10 tracks, and the songs that I initially found to be drab, such as Certainty and Sparrow, have grown into some of the catchiest, most emotive cuts on the record. Additionally, songs I didn’t give a verbal shout out to initially e.g. Blue Lightening have all started to shine in their own way. Without a doubt, this album is only ... read more

Big Thief on their White Album Beatles shit!

3 years and a global pandemic after they dropped two LP’s back to back, Big Thief return with a double LP titled “Dragon New Warm Mountain, I Believe In You” (that’s a mouthful) and it’s by far their best work to date.

This double album was recorded in 4 different locations; New York, California, Colorado and Arizona. Each new place they recorded songs at brought out a different side of the band and shows exactly how ... read more

Gorgeous. The album truly rewards those who are patient. Something which has felt difficult to do the last few years. This album was a sweet lullaby. Pure relaxation.

Big Thief's newest album feels like a cozy and warm blanket on a rainy day. Throughout the entirety of its 80 minutes, 'Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You' envelops the listener with the most beautiful, diverse, and often complex sounds the band has ever created, making for a blissfully unique and enchanting experience.

I'll admit, it is very rare for a folk record to truly captivate me. No matter how many heartwarming melodies and thoughtful lyrics I find in them, I'm always left with ... read more

I can just about entertain Beatles 'White Album' comparisons but I'm far more happy with Fleetwood Mac's 'Tusk' being the double album reference point with this rambling, unlikely epic.

Hell, Lenker even sings a little like Stevie Nicks in places, but most of all like with 'Tusk' you feel the songs fall into one of three main styles that are returned to throughout the tracklist (here they're 'acoustic folk', 'country' and for lack of a better term, 'indie') and then you have a sprinkle of ... read more

'Dragon New Warn Mountain I Believe In You' foi minha primeira experiência com o trabalho artístico de Big Thief, e por ela tive uma ótima primeira impressão do grupo. Em seu novo álbum, a banda traz um disco muito agradável de se ouvir com uma beleza tanto lírica e sonora extrema.

Há vários fatores que fazem este ser um disco encantador, posso citar que suas produções são muito ricas especialmente na primeira ... read more

NO NUANCE REVIEW

I know I’m four months late to listening to this, but I thought you all would want to hear my SCORCHING HOT TAKE about this album:

it good.

Unlike many sonically messy double albums, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You feels like the product of a group of friends who are on the exact same page every step of the way. Every decision feels like it’s in pursuit of bringing the listener into that dynamic behind the music. To call it “pure joy” would be an understatement.

This is my first experience with the band Big Thief and I can say that I am very satisfied.

"Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You" is quiet but impactful. What I appreciated the most of this project was the melodies and the way the vocalists sing. One of the main musical figures that reminded me of the band was Carole King. Every song on the album made me feel at home and peace.

However, this doesn’t mean that the group is "quiet" in terms of production, on the ... read more

While I have yet to listen to the entirety of the Big Thief discography 'Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You' is probably the best album that I've heard from them thus far. A few years back when Nostalgia put me on to their 2019 album 'Two Hands', I remember really enjoying when I first heard it, but it's an album that I seldom returned to that often but that album did leave an impression on me as I loved the tranquil nature of it overall and it made Big Thief stand out to me in the Folk ... read more

I was listening to this album for the first time while sitting on my back porch staring at the woods. I was eating a bowl of cereal and was just having such a pleasant time listening to this record. I remember I was on the song 'Red Moon' and all of a sudden the trees that I was staring at turned more colorful. The bleakness that they once were turned a more of an orange-yellowish color. It's like colorblindness that I have flicked its switch and turned off for a couple of minutes.

This album ... read more

Brooklyn based band Big Thief just keep impressing me more and more with every new album they release, yet still on their latest Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You they hit an all-time high. This album might be 80 minutes and a whopping 20 tracks, but they hit listeners from all directions, really showing the full scope of their sound and make it even make it feel like you’re embarking on an adventure in which you don’t know exactly where things are heading next. At center ... read more

The indie darlings that captivated 2019’s critics, Big Thief’s prolific streak that year was a testament to their creative prowess, and especially their versatility. Often lesser acts get easily lumped into the hulking mass of singer-songwriter and acoustic homogenisation, but catapulted by Adrianne Lenker’s idiosyncratic vocal embellishments and smart songwriting intuition, Big Thief were able to break through the haze and spellbind with a new wave for the somewhat simplistic ... read more

Like an aimless journey around the world, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You is diverse, risky, and, to say the least, amazing. Big Thief's fifth album reiterates, once again, the indisputable quality of an impeccable discography. Here, on a double album, various genres and ideas are explored, such as country on "Red Moon", the troubled "Time Escaping" and guitar rock on "Love Love Love". However, these experiments are not limited to sound. Adrianne Lenker, ... read more

One of the most unoriginal, uninspired, and drawn out album I have heard in a while. They couldn't wear their influences on their sleeve more clearly.
