The New York-based indie folk group releases its 5th album. After dropping 2 critically-acclaimed albums in 2019, Big Thief became a household name within the indie scene. With organic-sounding instrumentation, clever songwriting and frontwoman Adrianne Lenker unusual singing style, the band has developed a pretty refined sound. Now, with "Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You", a 20-track double album, the band embraces the twangy sound of country music while also exploring some ... read more
The sound of this album is absolutely stunning and that’s the main focus of this album and what makes its so great. Could slept through this but not in a bad way, if you know what I mean
I had never heard of Big Thief until I saw tons of people raving about this album. I was a bit intimidated by the length, so I left it on my back catalog for months until I finally got around to listening to it yesterday. I was expecting nothing more than a simple, comforting listen based on what I had read about the album.
I got so much more.
I’ve been an avid music fan for years at this point, and listened to hundreds of albums. I have never clicked with an album as quickly as I did ... read more
I've given up on writing reviews, and even if I feel as if there's not much in life to look forward to, at least this album is here to take me in. Insane how they managed to make a 1 hour and 20 minute album feel so tight, with only a minimal amount of 'padding'... Embrace love and embrace the moment. This is simply a beautiful album.
In a year where so many artists have released 80 minutes plus albums, this is my favorite one. The variety in sound is appalling.
I really appreciate the opportunity to listen to this record for the first time while keeping my mind occupied mainly because some parts of the middle of the album can be a bit draggy. Blurred View, Flower of Blood, No reason, and 12,000 lines are great examples of this. But above all, it’s an easy listen. It doesn’t require so much focus and it’s so simply delightful. It’s a nice background go-happy adventure!! A strong 80
A monumental monster of an LP lined back to back to back to back with lush, savory instrumentals and warm, cozy vocals. This album will only age gracefully.
Favorite Tracks: Simulation Swarm, Change, Certainty, Time Escaping
"Dragon New Warm Mountain" I Believe in You is captivatingly surreal, balancing interestingly between the nonsensical and the profound. Innocence and optimism are fragile throughout the meandering track list, quaking under the weight of tragedy and heartbreak. The recurrent themes on the record are grounded in grisly heartbreak to forbidden love, but also extend to to sci-fi, death, rebirth, religion and relativity, though Big Thief and their inimitable lyricist Adrianne Lenker make ... read more
Whilst not bad per se, this album does border on boring. I’ve seen comparisons to ‘the White album’ and “Tusk” and both are way off the mark, in my opinion. Lenker may well sound like Stevie Nicks from time to time and a few tracks really do capture the frenetic invention of Fleetwood Mac’s 1979 double-LP (namely “Little Things” and "Simulation Swarm") but the memorable, economical songcraft of these two touchstone LPs is just not ... read more
We need more albums where the singer shouts “That’s my grandma!” right before a sick fiddle solo.
I’m somewhat annoyed at myself for not liking this more than I already do, I truly understand why some people think this is phenomenal, but I can’t wholly say that I think the same for some truly stupid reasons. First off, I’m excited to listen to more of Adrianne Lenker’s body of work and get a better grasp on her sensibilities, because at this point I ... read more

Beautiful and incredibly engaging for its length
Very little to no dull moments at all, great melodies, choruses and instrument playing in general
One of the best records of this year for sure

Time Escaping
Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You
Little Thing
Blurred View
Dried Roses
Promise Is a Pendulum (My favourite ♥️)
12,000 lines
Simulation Swarm
The Only Place
Though previous projects by Big Thief didn't exactly do it for me (though I did enjoy a multitude of songs), this is one I can totally get behind. "Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You" proves to be a nice collection of tracks, 'Simulation Swarm' being the best one.
acho que a faixa título me chamou atenção
Teve várias legaizinhas, mas nada muito empolgante
DECENT to strong 9.
A beautiful listen: awe-inspiring vocals, meticulous songwriting, and impeccably executed instrumentation. Although I never saw myself as an indie folk person, this record changes things for me.
FAVS: All of them (besides maybe 12,000 Lines).
fav Tracks: time escaping, dragon new warm mountain I believe in you, sparrow, little things, flower of blood, red moon, dried roses, love love love change
Wait I love this. This caught me off guard because I've never listened to this band before and the album title sounded stupid to me 😭 I'm glad I finally got around to listening to this.
Favorite tracks: Change, Spud Infinity, Certainty, Sparrow, Little Things, Red Moon, No Reason, 12,000 Lines, Simulation Swarm, Blue Lightning
Least favorite: Wake Me Up To Drive
