While unabashed in its sometimes subtle, sometimes heavy-handed criticism of the culture, there’s something so alluring and easy-going about DRILL MUSIC IN ZION. With no filler or fluff, this album is bound to satisfy those who like their bars bountiful and Lupe Fiasco in peak form.
I don't know whether to be impressed that Drill Music in Zion makes it sound so easy and still comes out pretty great, or frustrated at the untapped potential that this fairly straightforward record hasn't unearthed.
Drill Music in Zion is strong but weighed down by its heavy message and repetitive structure, ultimately highlighted by lengthy runtimes.
Cold and vibey, Lupe's first step into a more minimal album structure. Honestly? It's a lovely interpretation on his part, as most of his performances here - especially in the second half of the record - come across as very heartfelt and meaningful.
Drill Music in Zion is a very well-made production album with very nice choices when it comes to samples and beats that give a strong atmosphere of the early 2000s. Lupe Fiasco gives a good performance here with wisely written lyrics and very well selected flow. But often I felt that most of the songs were too long to the point where I felt bored. And the female performances aren't always perfect and Nayirah gave a very average chorus here.

First Lupe album I've heard (I have heard a couple songs and features of his here and there). Had no clue what to expect on here, and gotta say this was really damn cool! It did start a bit slow, with some pretty boring tracks here and there like "AUTOBOT" that are just pretty boring and not great. HOWEVER, the second half of the album 100% makes up for it with some legit stellar songs like "MS. MURAL" and "DRILL MUSIC IN ZION" that see Lupe at his prime! I'm not ... read more

This is my introduction to Lupe Fiasco... so this is not a very good start. Most of the songs on here feel washed up and uninspired compared to other rap albums released this year. Songs like KIOSK take a while to actually get good, to the point where it doesn't make up for the rest of the track being so boring. Speaking of boring, Lupe himself sounds bored, which brings the songs down quite a bit. Even the shorter songs feel like they go on for too long. Not everything here is meh tho, songs ... read more
