[A mini digression to thank you so much for the 2.2k followers!!! It's a crucial support that makes me very happy, so here are 2 reviews today! Love]

Sick is a spiritual and introspective journey, showing that Earl Sweatshirt is coming out of his shell. This album is also marked by its musical Trap tone that makes it an exception in the repertoire of its author.

This new opus "Sick" has all the air of a new cycle for one of the most important rappers of the last 10 years, a ... read more

(1/14: If you’re already unironically rating or reviewing this, I don’t trust you. I’m personally gonna have to sit with this for awhile; one listen is nowhere near enough. Need another listen or twenty to absorb everything.)

EDIT 1: Two listens in, and all I can say for certain now is that this album is pretty damn good. When the lyrics are all available and accurate, I’m sure I’ll be able to get a better grasp on my feelings toward it, though. Earl has some of ... read more

I took a little more time with this review just to let it sink in for a moment. I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint but it’s also not my favourite of his. It has a potent mix of jazz rap and experimental trap. Although I thought that 2 of the trap influenced tracks “Sick!” and “Titanic” were definite lows. I was hoping that Titanic would have grown on me in the context of the album, but it was just the opposite. The song “2010” ... read more

Sick! is definitely a very good album, but I’m just gonna need more time with it to fully collect my thoughts.

Full review soon.

Obviously, this project has amazing moments and potential, but it's a bit repetitive.

Highlights : 2010, Vision, Fire in the Hole

Earl's tired ass on the title track is me staying up til midnight to listen to these backpacker wannabes slur over their take on abstract, dusty raps. The short run time helps out, helping to highlight good stretches like Tabula Rasa into Lye. Most of the ideas here are good, it's just that some executions are better then others. Yet, the abstract moments on this record are much more toned down from Earl's SRS style - which I'm calling a win. Earl works better the more coherent he is, I think ... read more

Earl Sweatshirt is one of the most solid names in rap, but unfortunately, it has not yet clicked for me. I must admit to being behind on his discography. I have not heard much of his material, let alone projects like "Some Rap Songs" which have brought forth nothing but respect and praise from many a critic.
Regardless, "Sick!" is hardly the in-depth experience I had now connected to Earl's name in my head. The beats and loops struggle to hold my attention, and many of the ... read more

Earl takes “some rap songs” and elaborates further on some of the albums best traits while sorta ignoring most of the small issues I had with the last album. The emotions on “SICK!” are in a weird way a lot more potent than on SRS, which keep in mind was one of the more depressing albums I had heard from 2018. Production on here was also really great on here, tracks like “Titanic” and “Tabula Rasa” are some extremely fun tracks because of how ... read more

NO NUANCE REVIEW

Ironically, despite the album title, this is the healthiest Earl has sounded in a long time.

Not my favorite album of his, but still a solid album all around, and I’m happy to see Earl seemingly at a better spot.

SICK! is a concise and cohesive work that stands out when heard in its entirety. Earl Sweatshirt's fourth studio album follows the artist's original line: mostly short songs without a chorus in mainstream formats. However, the short duration of the songs doesn't seem to be a problem, but the amount of them does. In this LP, Earl is even more concise in his rhymes, a single sentence has a great wealth of meanings, as in “[…] In the dark inside, we was real hungry”, in the ... read more

Earl returns with a sick cohesive album. Seriously now, 2022 ain't got no chill, holy shit.

"SICK!" is Earl Sweatshirt's new record, and although it's not too long, it represents a return to form from Earl, and possibly, a new era for his music.

Even if the runtime isn't that big, there is still enough to talk about. Like, for example, how this is better than Feet Of Clay soundwise. Or how the beats are super layered and enjoyable to pick through.

Ladies and gentlemen, history has repeated itself.

Last year, I sat at the same desk I am right now typing up a review of Tyler, The Creator's album "Call Me If You Get Lost". Despite my overall feelings for the record, I felt disappointed. Tyler had set the bar so high with his last two projects that even a 7/10 made me feel cheated out of what could have been. Well, the Odd Future boys seem to be on a roll, because Earl has dropped the ball even farther than Tyler did.

Earl Sweatshirts "SICK" still carries some amazing lyricism, great beats and head turning production that came from 2018’s "Some Rap Songs", but maybe even better. We also got spiffing features, with producers like Black Noise and the busy but excellent Alchemist. The verses on this record are amazing too.

Yup, I was sort of right after listening to Some Rap Songs, this album has a short length but a short track list that also leads to more songs sounding complete and focused that are a better length. Even this album has its setbacks though and there are still forgettable moments but because the album isn’t FILLED with them, the highlights stick out a bit more evening it out. Overall, this is a good follow up but I still think his sound needs work.

This is Earl's most accessible album in a hot minute and that's saying a lot.

Still some fantastic production as Earl wavers in and out of the beats, some really nice sample choices too.

Will have to let this one sit with me as it's Earl, but on a first listen it was really solid!

Earl finally sounds comfortable and for what? I'd grown used to his otherworldly, off-kilter cackle but I'd trade all that for whatever this is in a heartbeat. What a remarkable come back.
