Earl’s fourth album is a good companion to lean back and vibe to, but less compelling and ground-breaking than its well-received predecessor, and though Sick! indeed sounds like rap of its time, I’m finding it sad that the boring ticking trap has replaced some of that lo-fi atmosphere that made his last effort so compelling. Best track: ”Fire In the Hole.”

I don’t listen to Earl that often but this album surprised me with its production and its creativity.

Sick! has a lot of sick beats, a lot of variation, might possibly lack in cohesion but sounds great regardless.

The American rapper releases his 4th official studio album. Earl Sweatshirt is one of the more unique and respected underground hip-hop artists of the past decade. With his nonchalant delivery, introspective lyrics and left-field production, Earl’s projects are always highly anticipated. Where his last 2 releases, "Some Rap Songs" (2018) and "FEET OF CLAY" (2019) went into an abstract and dark direction, this new album: "SICK!", feels like a slightly more ... read more

Although it won’t go down as Earl’s very best, the aesthetic ideas and obviously excellent delivery make SICK! a worthwhile listen.

SICK! is pretty sick

Another short 24 minutes of Earl instropective world. SICK! is heavely trap inspired, but following the same dissociate style that Earl has show in the last years. The most significant part of the record for me, is that Earl continue to prove that is an amazing lyricist. This time however the album feel incomplete, by the end the beat work get kind of boring, and then well, just ends. Overall is not as interesting as his past work, especially Some Rap songs, but if you have 24 minutes to spend, ... read more

Are expectations the problem? I wonder that often when it comes to artists with projects close to my heart. It's sometimes difficult to distinguish whether you're not touched by an album because of something specific to it, or simply because it might not reach the heights of a previous release. For me, it's been the most difficult part of digging through SICK!, an album that underwent many changes throughout its development, going from a massive 19 track "more optimistic" album ... read more

I believe that it is a great project, but some songs just were too boring for me. Maybe because I don't really catch lyrics always (English is not my ... read more

A collection of tracks which feature a more "on-beat" Earl with more energy and bite, along with some fresh beat-selections. This album contains some of my new favourites songs of Earl, like Titanic, Fire in the Hole and 2010, but also some songs I could care less about. I feel as if I enjoy this entire project more with every listen however, so maybe it's just that deep.

I really wanted to like this record. Not to say that I don’t, but it feels disappointing to me. The production is fantastic throughout (especially Vision), but Earl’s flow and delivery never does it for me. Feels very lazy and bored which rubbed off on me and made me bored. Some good moments, some bad, mostly just alright.

Whereas Some Rap Songs stuck to a more concise sound throughout the duration of its brief 24 minute run time, Earl's newest release of essentially the same length feels more disjointed and thematically scattered. The album has highs such as "Tabula Rosa", a lush collaboration with Armand Hammer that sees Earl in top form, with his complex raps and dense, vivd imagery to a gorgeous instrumental. However, unlike "Tabula Rosa" many tracks on Sick! suffer from discontinuity and ... read more

This is not bad hip hop at all. It just did not impact me very much. Wasn't feeling it.

Earl Sweatshirt delivers a trim batch of hypnotic, hazy goodness on the contemplative "SICK!".
