CRITIC REVIEWS

90
Clash
Unapologetic bangers with tongue firmly cheek and a furious, feminist bent, ‘Tilt’ is the album you need in your life.
90
Gigwise

Sleek, sexy and banger-loaded, TILT is an affirming and exceptional record ready in time for an ostensibly virus-free and dance-heavy summer.

80
Mojo

With enough disco detonators aboard for three Top 5 albums, here's the feel-good hit album of 2022.

80
The Skinny
Conman has delivered yet another non-stop album that is guaranteed to raise the bar of your next party.
80
Dork
Every tune here would feel totally at home blaring by a hot poolside or in a dingy nightclub, so, however you enjoy your bangers, embrace the ‘TILT’.
80
NME
The Brisbane electro-poppers' second album is more emotionally rounded than its predecessor, but they remain ridiculous in all the right places.
80
AllMusic
The cathartic release is absolutely joyous on this stylish party album, a heaping dose of maximalist escapism from a quartet that just wants you to dance your cares away.
80
The Arts Desk
Australian dance act's second is packed with brazen, unashamed good-time tunes.
80
RIOT

Confidence Man’s characteristically wild lyrics and blissful melodies are still found in TILT. Songs present themselves as the slither of light, in a world that can prove itself to be increasingly dark.

80
musicOMH
This Melbourne outfit’s music offers more than a semblance of hope in difficult times; throwing caution to the wind, they leave us dancing until our legs can take no more.
80
Spectrum Culture
With their sophomore album, the Australian band Confidence Man embodies the spirit of relinquishing one's self to the groove. And though the attention is never pulled from that groove, their writing only further degrades the inhibitions Confidence Man fights against.
75
Under The Radar

At its heart, TILT is an intentionally joyous, escapist experience and even with the band’s proclivity for OTT campiness, they also prove that fun doesn’t have to be dumb.

71
Beats Per Minute

Tilt is the music they are dragging you onto the dancefloor for, and with most of these songs playing over the speakers, you’ll happily join them.

70
Uncut

This Brisbane quartet have a reputation as a euphoric live act, but slightly less arresting in the studio. This second album addresses that.

70
PopMatters

Australia’s mystery-goof quartet Confidence Man unleashed a supremely confident debut in 2018, but after years of waiting, they’re finally back with a ’90s sheen on TILT.

70
Pitchfork
The dance-pop quartet pays tribute to a canon of airhead classics on a fleet-footed record that prioritizes sheer pleasure and fun above all else.
60
Evening Standard
This jokey side project certainly has the tunes – but they couldn’t be less suited to living room listening.
60
DIY
Their knack for incredible hooks is still there, but the effortless fun seems to have fallen by the wayside.

I'll admit I only listened to this cause the artwork is very cute, but surprisingly it's a very fun album. Loads of electropop production mixed with some disco influenced sounds, this duo is giving me alternative Magdalena Bay vibes.

Some of these vocals sound really bad. This album is kind of fun but it's so vapid and boring that I can't get behind the cheesy aesthetics. Some of these songs I enjoyed, generally the ones with vocal harmonies; It Feels Like A Different Thing, Push It Up, but generally this was a miss for me.

TILT is a record so cheesy it (mostly) becomes fun. While the first half of this record features a lot of cute 90s-inspired dance tracks and engaging vocals with a feminist edge, the back half has a very rough start and loses me completely up until track eleven. Overall, I find this record a mixed bag, but when it works it works well. Check out "Luvin U Is Easy", "Holiday" and "Feels Like A Different Thing".
