Unpopular opinion: this album is incredibly boring and underwhelming just like the band itself.
The rock megastars prick up their ears while thinking about the future, seek for consolation in reunified Berlin and renovate their brandname with unexpected sucess.
Achtung Baby also contains the thrilling, SO CRUEL...
U2 gets experimental with their sound. Very ego-driven. And that's probably why I love it. You gotta love a band who ups their ambitions for the better. Brian Eno did a fantastic job on this record. It's also one of the few records I can point to when thinking of what influenced a record like OK Computer.
U2 delivers a tour de force of an album, mixing innovative uses of electronica into the instrumentation for 1991, singing that paints each song with emotion, grandiosity, or nuance if necessary, and lyrics that drip with hallmark nineties irony, sprinkled with vivid imagery.
