Loud and Quiet

Here we can feel the intense and heartfelt atmosphere of Villagers’ music, free from electronic stopgaps and excessive baroque scores.

A collection of re-recordings of material from their three previous albums that reframes the songs in an impressively cohesive manner.

Despite its limitations, Villagers’ latest LP does succeed in producing some very worthy reinterpretations and weaving them seamlessly together, which is often easier said than done.

The Guardian

The resulting songs ... maintain their loose shapes, anchored by his gossamer-light voice and plucked guitar lines. As is always the case with live sessions, there’s nowhere to hide and O’Brien’s delicate songwriting is laid bare.

While ‘Where Have You Been…?’ certainly showcases Villagers’ songwriting and impressive intimate side, it ultimately falls between two stools - not giving a true portrayal of a Villagers live show, and failing to mix-up tracks enough to justify this ‘re-imagining’ of older material.

NOW Magazine

While half the fun is spotting the differences between the original and the remake, Where Have You Been All My Life? is also an excellent intro to Villagers, a summary of five years in one album.

Drowned in Sound

While the record will prove to be an enjoyable distraction for ardent fans, it’s hard to shake the feeling that these revamps might have been better saved for the live setting.

Under The Radar

It is a live album with no atmosphere, too polished to convey any energy, too technical to invite empathy and too isolated to evoke intimacy.
