An excellent artistic achievement from producer Todd Rundgren, whose albums produced for other bands were always superb understandings of their past careers and slight pivots to hip, yet anachronistic sounding relevant album-oriented rock on the cutting edge of the trends. Overall this album was a bit of a disappointment for me, being such a fan of The Band's first two albums, this just feels like a marked step down. I might've been a bit harsh in this review but that's because I know they can make genuinely remarkable music, which this just basically isn't. It's a solid album, but just not in the overall scheme of things for The Band.
