Louder Than War

Antidawn is special. It is unlikely that you will experience anything else quite like this for the rest of the year.

This is delicate, complex music that demands relistening. It’s certainly frustrating at first, especially if you’re expecting another dubstep masterpiece. But it grows on you given openness and attention.

Beats Per Minute

Antidawn is many things, but most of all, it is the sound of our lives behind concrete walls and glass windows, on dark streets and in dirty sheets. It breathes, forever encased, in darkness and in light.

Loud and Quiet

Burial has explored pure, percussion-free ambience plenty of times before ... but never with such a degree of intricacy or sheer temporal commitment.

NME

Although ‘ANTIDAWN’ isn’t by any means an easy listen or an EP made for casual ears, the level of intricate detail and world-building achieved proves that, more than a decade since his arrival, nobody does immersive electronica quite like Burial.

PopMatters

Burial continues an almost unfeasibly long hot streak of evocative and compelling sonic visions with Antidawn. It feels like an entirely new genre of field recording and is his most abstract electronica to date.

Uncut

Bevan infuses his music with a glowing warmth, these tunes framed like prayers for happier times ahead.

Burial’s longest release in years doubles down on his signature sounds and downcast mood. A collaged chorus of voices holds together a windswept expanse of undulating nothingness.

Directionless drifting might make Antidawn seem difficult compared to other Burial releases, but there's something quietly powerful in the way he's able to express the sensation of being inexplicably lost.

Burial’s ‘Antidawn’ EP is characterized by crackling, ambient soundscapes with an abstract sense of progression. Scattered vocals feel as if they’re attempting to break through the static, as if these emotions are bubbling up, only to quickly be suppressed again. The length of some of the less active passages is felt, but your patience is almost always rewarded with the introduction of new sonic ideas. It’s beautiful and contemplative, and a perfect soundtrack for ... read more
