A lovely debut, it's a shame this is as overshadowed as it is by Loveless since it is a solid and noisy rock record with a few hidden gems.

Best Track: Soft as Snow (But Warm Inside)

There's so many hidden gems on this. How. How is this an 84 user score?
Half the songs on this are 10's. The album is flashy, bright, and dreamy. However, it is more noise pop than it is shoegaze.
Basically, this is Xiu Xiu but without the (sometimes) annoying vocals, but with better ideas, and less experimentation.

This album is practically the definition of a beautiful mess. Every song seems a bit off, but it does it in a way that makes it seem all intentional.

Surprisingly for me I much prefer the tracks where Bilinda Butcher has lead vocals on this project, while it was the opposite for me on Loveless. This is mainly because Kevin Shields’ vocals on here don’t seem as developed, and seem a bit more raw than they did on their next effort.
