It may lack some of the avant-garde experimentation and concepts of her full-lengths but after all she’s been through and all that she’s given us, CAPRISONGS feels like a victory lap.
The diversity of styles on CAPRISONGS would likely end up a disjointed mess in any other hands, but with twigs (and her stacked team) on hand, it all sews together brilliantly.
She’s closer to the mainstream pop world than ever before here. Yet it doesn’t sound like a compromise. There’s still plenty of sonic weirdness in the corners, and she’s surely earned some time in the sun.
The way Barnett shares tracks and experiences on Caprisongs makes it a more diffuse listening experience than her past releases, but it also brings a galvanizing openness to her music -- and suggests pain doesn't have to be her only muse.
In a discography filled with experimental pop played at an overwhelming intensity, Caprisongs offers both a feeling of playfulness and self-assurance.
Caprisongs is twigs' catchiest and most fun project to date.
Ironically, the empowering messages that enabled twigs to let loose and pursue the structureless endeavour of creating a mixtape ended up providing its unifying thread.
After the emotional toll of making 2019's ‘Magdalene’ this varied collection shows a new side to the once unattainable star.
The U.K. avant-pop star fights trauma and darkness with the most buoyant music of her career.
Given time and careful attention, this new mixtape unfurls to reveal the richest and catchiest melodies twigs has written so far.
In a discography saturated with ambient anthems and frenetic energy, CAPRISONGS brilliantly brandishes the talent of an artist constantly looking for her next high.
Small blemishes aside, CAPRISONGS is cool, calm, composed, and immediately apparent.
As emotionally sharp as ever, and as easily vulnerable but with some fierce love in her corner, this is the sound of twigs really loving what she does and putting herself at its core.
'CAPRISONGS' is a necessarily selfish project, and one which invites listeners to revel in all its joys and sorrows. Whilst it’s nice to hear a change of pace for twigs, there’s not as much focus on experimentation and expression, which could disappoint some exacting fans.
It’s an adventurous but undercharged effort missing hooks and cohesion.
Wow, this ended up being waaaaay better than I expected. This feels way different than anything Twigs has done in the past, but with this really incredible execution. These feel like summer sweet RnB songs in the winter, that all flow together smoothly. This project is pure bliss. I expected this to be a lot weaker than her previous work, but nah she kills it
Edit (84 -> 90): yeah… I can’t stop listening to this. It’s actually an AOTY contender for me. I think it’s ... read more
On Caprisongs, FKA Twigs exorcises her demons in a cocktail rich in flavor. While this mixtape has a lot of great things to offer, especially with its mood and uniqueness, this one struggles to shine like the previous projects.
It's a great day for R&B and Pop, as one of its divas offers us a very generous mixtape. It even affects me more personally, since FKA Twigs has been my favorite female R&B/Pop artist for a few years now, which means I'm expecting a lot from this project, and ... read more
TWIGS out here building a discography that is soon to become impossible to compare. There's levels to this productions that I can't even comprehend sometimes, it takes a mind of a musical genius, and she has been proving to be THE GENIUS for almost two decades. 'Caprisongs' is her most care free project yet, filled with danceable songs, tracks that go all the way, moving between genders and different stations. The room for experimentation is vast but that has always been the case when it comes ... read more
FKA Twigs definitely makes some of the catchiest and most fun tracks in 2022. Had my interest captured through the whole mixtape. As well as my enjoyment.
favorite tracks: ride the dragon, honda, meta angel, tears in the club, oh my love, papi bones, jealousy, careless, minds of men, darjeeling, thank you song
when this came out, I hated it considering I adored the sounds of Twigs previous albums & EPs and felt Caprisongs was mostly catering to a mainstream audience. but months down the line and coming back to it with a different mindset has allowed me to appreciate it a bit more and the playful energy FKA twigs exudes here. Though I still prefer her past stuff I think this is her most fun laid back album to date. My major complaint is those voice recordings get irritating especially when they ... read more
