[UPDATE BELOW REVIEW... but also read the review]

Deftoes. Yummy.

Improving and developing their sound from "Adrenaline" tenfold, "Around the Fur" is what I consider to be one of the knights in shining armor when it comes to the mostly egregious hellhole that is nu-metal. Honestly, though I don't really consider this album to be totally specific to the genre. Few albums' hooks are the riffs

This is one of those albums.

Deftones scoff at the mere idea of a sophomore slump with one of the most aggressive and in-your-face records of the nineties. Every single song punches you in the face as a brutal first impression, to the point that each track becomes instantly recognizable within the first few listens. It sounds like the transition album from good to great, and it captures a lightning in a bottle energy from one of the most exciting and experimental acts in nu-metal. Chino's nasty screaming and whispered singing is at it's top potential here, and it's a lovely addition to an already interesting band. It's catchy, exciting and ... read more

If anyone says NU metal is a bad genre with nothing going for it direct them to Deftones immediately to shut them up
