Few albums' hooks are the riffs

This is one of those albums.

Deftones scoff at the mere idea of a sophomore slump with one of the most aggressive and in-your-face records of the nineties. Every single song punches you in the face as a brutal first impression, to the point that each track becomes instantly recognizable within the first few listens. Easily one of my favorite metal albums out there, and a stand out in Deftones' impressive catalogue.

A beautiful sophomore release. I just love Deftones, man.
While not as good as what Deftones would be able to accomplish, it's still a mindbogglingly great record that sounds like Deftones are ironing out their kinks. Chino's nasty screaming and whispered singing is at it's top potential here, and it's a lovely addition to an already interesting band. It's catchy, exciting and ... read more
Can be hard to pay attention to in places and that fucking silence is always a small turn off, especially when the first time i listened to this I was expecting some huge metal epic and didn't get that. However, is with most Deftones albums, no duds on this record. A long run time that kicks ASS. Deftones still holds thier place as the BEST Nu Metal band of all time
The absolute fury of this album is insane. Out of all the bandwagon jumpers who liked Korn’s debut, deftones seem to actually get it perfect. This album is heavy as hell, plenty of riffs and screaming. It’s an album that goes by fast but stops to slow down when it needs to, until it gets picked up by raging vocals and heavy riffs. I love every song on here but the title track is especially a great song. Fantastic album. Man I love deftones.
