When I listen to this album, I will always, without fail, forget that this is indie rock played by 3 dudes plus the occasional cello or backing vocalist. I feel like this is an ambient album to driving out on the road in the middle of nowhere. And if you can do that with just a few instruments and lyrics, you deserved to be praised

Edit: it's amazing how much this album grew on me. The relistens were definitely worth it, I love this thing too much to not consider it a 9 at least.

While not as good as LCW, Modest Mouse's debut record is still very enjoyable and includes some of their best material

Wow. This is very, very bad. I guess I don't like Modest Mouse at all. I guess they are kind of skilled at playing instruments, but it doesn't make the album good for me. It's mind numbingly boring. Would rather listen Michael Gira strum his guitar for 4 hours straight.
One of my favorite albums of all time, a track or two in here is a bit annoying though.
