Amongst this heart-ache and angst comes upbeat and contagious pop anthems. The production and use of instrumentation on the record ticks all the boxes needed for a 2022 pop record. Yet tracks such as “you’re so cool” utilise electric guitars that give the album a timeless energy.
Tate McRae nunca foi uma artista a qual seu trabalho artístico me chamou atenção contudo, por alguns singles dessa era como "What Would You Do" e "She's All I Wanna Be" terem sido as primeiras canções da cantora a me cativar, sentia que minha experiência ao escutar 'i used to think i could fly' seria melhor. Entretanto, escutar seu álbum de estreia foi uma experiência tão chata e cansativa quanto ouvir os EPs que ... read more

This sucks. This is an underwritten, uninteresting, and derivative album. But I don’t really blame Tate for how bad this came out. These are all problems most young and new artists face when they’re making their first pieces of work. The difference is, those artists don’t land a major label record deal after their first couple of songs and then release a debut album before they’ve figured out who they are as an artist. This album is, quite frankly, evidence that Tate McRae's huge fanbase and acclaim would not come so easily to her if not for her prior fame as a dancer. I don't quite know what music she wants to make, but it's absolutely clear that RCA want her to make Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo tracks. To borrow a phrase from another horribly mid album, this is divinely uninspired to a hellish extent.
'i used to think i could fly' Album Notes:
There is an underlying ubiquity to the sound that Tate McRae curates on her debut album. The question as to whether she quite distinguishes herself in a refreshing new way is debatable, but she ... read more
