Perhaps mindful of the need to compete with her proteges and pretenders, or keen to navigate to pastures relatively new, Love Sux has enough elements to make for a refreshing listen.
Even if Love Sux isn’t a perfect album, it’s certainly a well-deserved victory lap from someone with little left to prove.
Not only does she look exactly the same 20 years on, the music sounds the same too.
Capitalizing on early 2000s pop-punk nostalgia, Love Sux is an algorithm-appeasing record that feels like the most impersonal Avril Lavigne has ever been.
Your enjoyment of Love Sux will thus fully depend on your relationship to the pop-punk of the early Noughties.
NO NUANCE REVIEW
You know what sux more than love? This current 2000’s Blink era pop-punk/emo revival. Elder millennials are having a boomer moment and letting bad pop-punk become insanely popular due to nostalgia AND I HATE IT. Lets just leave the past in the past and stop asking Travis Barker and Avril Lavigne to pretend they aren’t 40, good god.
I planned on writing a full review for this but honestly after listening to the album a couple of times through I don't think I have any strong feelings to share, so instead I'm just gonna quote some of the lyrics from it because I think they pretty much resume my overall thoughts. Maybe Avril should listen to herself more often.

Pretty apparent nostalgia bait that is meant to appeal to people who grew up with 2000s emo-pop and doesn't really offer anything substantive.
That being said it's somewhat fun. I do have a soft spot for this era of punk and I found some enjoyment despite the terrible features or the fact that Avril is nearly 40 and is writing lyrics as if she's still in high school.
