Transparency is the sound of a band restlessly searching for a new direction and pulling it off very well.
An attempt to sidestep presumptions and carve out new space, ‘Transparency’ could be the most unexpected move of Twin Atlantic’s career.
There’s enough here to appreciate how good Twin Atlantic are at writing well crafted pop songs and you just have to acknowledge that.
The record sags in the middle when the pace dies down, but ‘Transparency’ never overstays its welcome. It may not produce the “massive hit” McTrusty once pined for, but it’s a sign there’s life in the old dog yet.
It all feels like something of a middle finger to expectation and convention.
Ultimately, there are enough ideas on display here to just about see Twin Atlantic right. While it may not be a clear-cut success, Transparency does prove once again that its creators have it in them to be bloody great.
Streams of consciousness, honest emotions and frustration with the world around us - Twin Atlantic’s latest effort may not be the one we thought we wanted, but in doing something different, it might be exactly the one we need.
Glaswegian rockers Twin Atlantic look inwards and get funky for a lockdown special.
Charmless, ugly crud that somehow manages to simultaneously try too hard and not try at all. I'd make a joke about this album being transparently shitty, but I'd prefer that my writing not sink to the same level as the worthless NPCs who created this record.
As a long-time fan of Scottish culture, I can say this does not (and must not) represent music produced by its countrymen.
I used to be a very big fan of Twin Atlantic but this album honestly isn't good. They need to improve back to previous standards.
Brings me back to 2016… and not in a good way.
The sound of this album is quite distasteful and annoying. It’s like I’m listening to a mix of Arctic Monkeys and Maroon 5, with a tint of Portugal. the Man in some songs. Yeah not very interesting nor good, except for the first track which was decent. So far, January ain’t looking too good.
