Listeners are still getting the familiar vocals, fantastic guitar work, funky and intricate basslines, and drums that go hard, but with more synth and beats.
On Vaxis II ... there’s no denying they’ve made their definitive album that’s perfect for all listeners.
Vaxis II: A Window of the Waking Mind is stellar; it offers fresh, wildly creative terrain for the Amory Wars saga to mine going forward.
"Vaxis II" offers plenty of entertainment and quality tunes.
Despite being a bit conventional at times, Vaxis – Act II: A Window of the Waking Mind is ultimately among Coheed & Cambria's most welcoming, aspiring, and fulfilling studio creations.
Even taken in isolation, Vaxis II is a superbly realised vision from a band whose ambition knows no bounds.
Coheed show no signs of slowing down or retracing trodden ground, with the twists and turns as regal as they are maniacal, which is all the more remarkable given the extracurricular efforts that goes into their beloved Armory Wars.

Hot take: this is the best Coheed album since No World For Tomorrow. I'm not sure how some reviewers get off on being angry at synths and vocal manipulation on a SPACE OPERA. Yeah, it's not their best work but the ending few songs here go especially hard in the paint. The boys are experimenting, this is the second chapter in a new saga so what do you expect? Progressive rock progresses, people. I'm even tempted to take the score higher but I'm going to see if it grows on me. A very fun record.
Kind of a miss for one of my favorite bands of all time. Vaxis - Act II: A Window of the Waking Mind is Coheed and Cambria's latest installment in their epic story, and while I as a regular listener of this band might be able to come away with at least SOME amount of value from this album, it definitely seems like this album has very little to offer casual listeners. Sure, there's cool riffs, and Claudio's singing as as awesome as ever, but this album doesn't slap nearly as hard as we expect ... read more
