No matter how controversial, it remains one of the greatest and most influential hip-hop albums of all time.

A historic moment in hip-hop that redefined West Coast rap.

No one in the pop universe makes more visceral--or more visual--music than he does ... The Chronic storms with rage, strolls with confidence, and reverberates with a social realism that's often ugly and horrifying..

Rolling Stone

Throughout, The Chronic drops raw realism and pays tribute to hip-hop virtuosity.

At points this album feels like it’s too much. That being said, This thing being as raw and vulgar as it is contributes to the staying power of it. Tons of fantastic tracks. Few low points.

learning that this album is finally back on streaming felt like running into an old friend at a party. for those who might be new to/ambivalent towards rap & hip hop: the chronic really is THAT good.

This is such a vulgar display of power in the gangsta genre. Dre's killing it on every track with his ominous production, the collabs fit so well with the album concept, Snoop Dogg was an essential presence and even steals the show at half album. Even the $20 sack interlude was funny af.
The album doesn't kick ass on the last tracks like on the beginning, but it still keeps such raw energy.

A total hood classic

dips in quality as the album progresses but the quintessential hip hop album without any doubt
