Although they didn't realize it, they moved up, higher than the sun, absolutely loaded, praising the euphoria of the rave generation.

A breathtakingly fresh response to the extremely popular techno and acid house scene of dance music in the 90s. Screamadelica brings psych-rock elements along with electronic and disco elements, which forms a project that is like no other. There are some filler tracks and some tracks that are too messy for their own good, but as a whole, Primal Scream made something that still to this day hasn't been surpassed as far as dance music goes (Daft Punk comes close though).

Day 10/325: Alternative Dance

Almost wanna give this record a 9 just for the cover.

This thing absolutely blew me away upon my first couple listens. At certain points I had to stop and check if I was listening to the same album, or if my Spotify got messed up or something. I was being hit with so many different sounds of neo-psychedelia, techno, house, indie, alternative and dance rock. Influenced by the Beach Boys, Nico, and a whole lot of LSD and MDMA, Primal Scream was able to construct one of the most forward-thinking and unique records of the 90s.

Genre QuaQuaQuaQuaQuaQua: episode ten: "Eighty Hours in the Hot Seat"

Mission Report: Well, welcome to Agusta, Kentucky agent, at least the outskirts of it. Sneaking into the cargo hold was dangerous but you've done it. It appears that the two of them have already gone inside was appears to be an abandoned hut in the middle of this fields wearing strange robe and masks. Agent, I believe I saw a spare robe and mask in the cargo hold. Put that in and infiltrate the compound.

Same really fun and creative beats on here. Some though, get boring and/or corny after a while but honestly they all bop really nicely.

Previously underground indie rock outfit Primal Scream decided in 1990 to take their sound into a new direction inspired by the then-increasing popularity of acid house genres mixed with strong sonic artifacts of gospel and old-school 70s rock thrown in for good measure. This produced what many consider as their magnum opus, Screamadelica, in 1991. Fit with elements of the aforementioned acid house, gospel, early rock, and even somee beautiful wind sections contrasted with electronic samplings ... read more

Dancing all over the place

Primal Scream's "Screamadelica" is one of the more varied and ambitious albums I've ever heard in my life, and it honestly is beyond me how these guys were able to pull off something that combines psychedelic music, pop, dub, dance music, and even gospel on the first track.

There are also some BANGERS inside this project. "Movin' On Up" as mentioned previously is a very very fun song, it's so upbeat and undeniably charming that it probably is my ... read more

I’ve seen this picture everywhere and kept forgetting the artists behind it. I finally found it was Primal Scream, a band I never knew of before and I feel as though I should given the fact they have such a long tenor and that I’ve seen this picture a number of times without having listened to them before says something. The album quickly transitions from something easy and clean of an opener and into more electronic and weirder sounding stuff that I wouldn’t have ever ... read more

Easily one of the most adventurous and colorful records I have yet to hear out of the 90s. This album explores so many different musical elements and genres throughout its hour long runtime (especially on the front half, GOOD LORDDDDD) serving particularly as a pastiche to the alternative dance scene in Europe that was thriving during this time.

The psychedelic undertones all over this thing are so rich and infectious and fun that by the end of the record I was left wanting more, which for an ... read more

An addictive psychedelic and dance fusion. This album always puts me in a good mood, it's the sort of album that makes you feel like you're on drugs. Insanely fun.

Best Track: Higher Than the Sun - Higher Than the Orb Mix
Worst Track: Higher Than the Sun (A Dub Symphony in Two Parts)

Primal Scream’s third studio LP is a true masterpiece and perhaps one of the greatest albums ever made. After two mostly-overlooked album releases in the late 80s, Primal Scream reinvented themselves and created something that was unlike anything that came before it.

In terms of genre, “Screamadelica” is most easily described as an acid house or psychedelic dance record. However, the album also incorporates elements of 1960s rock (Damaged), gospel music (Movin’ On Up / ... read more

I wasn't active for this past week but from the start of June 18 I am officially back on track, the reason being - 1) It's holidays in Russia ( June 12) and 2) It's my birthday in 30 minutes but I know that you don't care. Let's just get into the review already.
I liked the first 3 tracks a lot, but the album has gone downhill since. I thought that the loops added to the songs, however I like loops when I'm bombarded with ideas and they keep me going with the rythm (Remain In Light) which I'm ... read more

Woah. Yeah this is not what I was expecting from the title. While listening to this you'll get hit by so many different sounds. Whether it's psychedelic rock, electronic and even dance, this album puts you into a sort of trance like no other. I don't have many words to describe this project to be honest. Warm, I think that fits. Tracks like "Loaded" and "Inner Flight" remind me of old Pepsi commercials and the feeling of riding a bike during the hottest days of summer. This ... read more

With "Screamadelica", Scottish band Primal Scream unveils another side to indie rock music. With major influences from dance and the Madchester movement this album is one of the greatest efforts of the early 90's. It's mesmerising and energetic, displaying beautifully written songs. Listening to 'Higher than the Sun' for the second time for 7 minutes was pretty hard, though, but overall the album is amazingly produced, the performances are sharp and the fusion of different genres and ... read more

I can see why this was so groundbreaking when it first came out as it fuses together acid house, dance and psychedlia in a complex yet accessible way. Start of the 90's so the whole of this kind of sound/ genre was just springing up out of the ground and this album became a beacon for many bands. However, listening to this in 2021 when many bands and artists have delved deeper into crossing these genres such as Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses, it just doesn't carry the same weight. It doesn't ... read more

Listening to this is like being high af and having religious visions. I haven’t heard something like that well, never. Screamadelica is very weird record and I love the huge pallete of instrumentation and electronics, like all the jazzy/bluesy saxophones, rock guitars, electronic quirky noises, beats, percussion and the melting vocals. Also there are some tapes which are somehow disturbing AND calming, inducing the trance-like state. You litterally don’t know what will happen in the ... read more
