EDIT: Deltron 3030 technically came out in 2000, but i think the trends i talk about bleed a bit into the early 2000s too. i think The Cold Vein is probably where it starts to die out personally.

i have a problem with 90s hip-hop. dont get me wrong, i enjoy a lot of it - there are some amazing records that came out in the 90s. Thank you to @pickle & @Rollo_P for this album recommendation 🥰 (even though I already had Dr. Octogon on my list, you filthy bastards) - This album is raunchy, spooky, funky, and reeking with early 2000s underground hip-hop tropes. Lo-fi mix? Absolutely. Semi-awkward delivery? Yes. Grimy/noisy beats? For sure. Just so happens that I love all of those aspects, so that makes this an automatic win for Kool Kieth... Shoutout @STLHiphop for the rec. I usually don’t particularly love experimental rappers, because I enjoy more classical deliveries and they usually do weird and wacky inflections, but this was actually pretty interesting. The production was probably the highlight for me, all of the beats fit the theme so well, they’re eerie, sci fi themed, and creative. The rapping is a bit more patchy. Before Jpegmafia, and Injury Reserve, and even MF Doom was a man that pushed boundaries in Hip Hop for years and still to this day doesn't get the recognition and love he deserves, that man is Kool Keith and he is a certified legend.
