Standing firm with timeless big pop energy, ‘UNLEARNING’ arrives in a perfect moment.

The Telegraph

They have boldly reimagined new-romanticism for the modern age, addressing the state of current life and times through a queer-centric lens.

The Skinny

Walt Disco's much-anticipated debut album, Unlearning, is gritty, melodramatic, and a little bit batshit.

Gigwise

An exploration of queer identity, Unlearning is a musically expansive and experimental album that forefronts the universal message that it is never too late to be yourself.

The Line of Best Fit

A record that belies its debut status, Unlearning bares the strength and complexity of a later career offering, with Walt Disco deftly updating their precursors’ flair from a twenty-first century vantage point, championing the illustrious Scottish post-punk tradition in the process.

DIY
This anarchic debut teaches us to embrace uncertainty with open arms, and express ourselves however we see fit.
70
musicOMH
Assured and individual, this debut takes theatrical transgression beyond the dressing-up box and into the music.
70
Clash
The album itself is presented as a stage show with two halves that divulge into themes of sexuality, identities, and love. The over-the-top production and complete unwillingness to align with any sound makes this album brilliantly unique.

It's not that bad.

I agree with twwalter about "Unlearning" being discount David Bowie especially in terms of vocals. The singer really pushes the tremolos and dramatic aspect in their voice which as first, is pretty alienating. It gets better as the album continues. If there were a comparison to make, this album made me thing at time of "Hunky Dory".

The music is at parts really intriguing but it's also pretty conventional at times.

Derivative, Discount David Bowie. Some trip hop and future bass hooks doesn't change that.
