While previous full-length ‘Foolish Loving Spaces’ might have felt like a lightspeed jump forwards, the self-assured comfort of ‘Ribbon Around The Bomb’ is arguably even more impressive.

The title track is the strongest, strutting past on an easygoing bassline with much woo-ing in the backing vocals. They’re growing up, but haven’t lost sight of what makes them so appealing.

Featuring tight rhythms, compelling pop melodies and thoughtful lyrics, Blossoms signature chiming electric sound has developed in this mature record that puts song-writing at the forefront and solidifies their position as UK indie-pop icons.

Blossoms are never going to produce an AOTY but their intrepid desire to put a unique spin on every album and their bustling, energetic live shows give them a distinct edge over a lot of UK indie rock outfits. This record is a much more laidback, indie surf rock vibe compared to their past albums, which contain a wider sonic palette and straightforward guitar rock. Probably the best band the UK has to offer at this moment in time. Blossoms have perfected the chill, laid back rhythm which they made their name with which is present in upmost clarity towards the back end of the record with tracks such as Care For, Cinema Holy Days, Edith Machinist and Visions staking a claim to be some of my favourite tracks of the year so far.
